Having an updated portfolio and resume keeps you one step ahead when it comes to applying for grants, scholarships, residencies, and so on.

How to apply for artist’s grants and residencies

Time and preparation are key to make the best out of open calls and other opportunities that might pop up along the way. As the saying goes “if you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready”, and in the art world, that means organizing your body of work in a way it can be shared and presented when the chance arrives.

What do you need to prepare to apply to artistic grants and residencies? Follow this short list to keep all your information up to date:

  1. Prepare your artist statement or update it.
  2. Create an accurate description of your work that precisely communicates what you do: define your art niche, technique, and usual audience you market to.
  3. Give a twist to your portafolio: curate a 3D Virtual Gallery to showcase your artwork, you can both share via link or host it on your professional website.
  4. Create an online artist profile: support your resume and portfolio with a professional digital presence and content.
  5. Are you planning to apply for an exhibition or art fair far from home? Preview your art in place with ArtPlacer’s Art Fair Planner tool.
  6. Prepare in advance: do you have to create art prints of your work? Do you want to work with specific frames to highlight your pieces? Will you need to move and place your sculptures?  Save time and resources using ArtPlacer’s digital tools that enable you to design a size (and site) accurate layout of your art in place.

Now: it’s time to prepare your portfolio and apply to that open call that can take your artistic career to the next level. Best of luck!
