Join the Women Artists Empowerment Day: Use Your Voice, Be Seen, and Make Your Mark

This March 8th, ArtPlacer, PxP Contemporary and Create! Magazine come together to observe and commemorate International Women’s Day.

Women artists will take the spotlight in inspiring and educational panel discussions throughout the day, sharing essential resources to help others in the process of defining their creative voice and building their brand in the contemporary art world.

Although the highlight of the week will be three live talks on March 8th, that entire week will be filled with engaging activities, useful tools, and daily social media prompts that will help kick off Women’s History Month by generating buzz about the talented women artists working today.

Meet the speakers

María Añez – ArtPlacer

María is a performing artist, journalist, and content creator with over ten years of experience in marketing. She has worked as a social media manager and content strategist for brands and digital media outlets in Canada, USA, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, and Argentina. Her main focus is storytelling focused on engaging audiences in innovative ways creating experiences beyond brands.

Alicia Puig – PXP Contemporary

Alicia Puig is the Curator & Co-founder of PxP Contemporary, Director of Business Operations for Create! Magazine, an arts writer, regular guest host of The Create! Podcast, and co-author of The Complete Smartist Guide & The Creative Business Handbook (forthcoming, May 2023). She has worked in the arts industry for galleries, museums, art fairs, private collectors, art publications, and an auction house for over ten years both in the US and internationally.  Her gallery was recognized with a curatorial excellence award at the Affordable Art Fair New York in September 2022.

Ekaterina Popova – Create Magazine

Ekaterina Popova is an award-winning artist born in Russia, known mostly for her original oil paintings of interiors. Ekaterina received a BFA from Kutztown University in 2011. Her work has been exhibited internationally. Popova has been featured in multiple blogs and publications, including Colossal, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, American Art Collector, The Jealous Curator, DPI Magazine, Friend of The Artist, Iceview, and The Philadelphia Inquirer. She has attended several residencies, including the Centre Pompadour in Abbeville, France. Popova works out of her rustic factory studio at 1241 Carpenter Street Studios in Philadelphia.

Meet our Guest Speakers

Piya Samant

Born and raised in India, Piya Samant now lives and paints in the awe-inspiring New England region, USA. After pursuing a career in Technology, she picked up the brush again in 2014 and commenced her full-time art practice. Piya’s paintings are characterized by colorful, light-filled canvases in a painterly style. Her work is exhibited in museums and galleries across USA. As a self-taught artist, Piya has learned art techniques by observing artworks of Master artists. She is represented by PXPContemporary and ArtsPlus galleries. In 2022, Piya received a WCC/ Mass Cultural State grant to further her painting endeavors.

Juliana Naufel

Juliana Naufel is a Brazilian visual communicator who invites us to become aware of different realities and support each other as women through her art practice. Naufel’s artworks can be found in a number of private collections around the world, including The Wonders of Women Museum, USA, The Kanyer Art Collection, USA and Museu das Bandeiras, Brazil. Her work was also exhibited in group shows in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States. The artist earned her MA Degree in Art Therapy from Universidade Cândido Mendes and her BA in Visual Arts from São Paulo’s State University.

JJ Galloway

JJ Galloway is an internationally collected artist known for whimsical paintings and sculptures of people, animals and food or any combination of the three! Carefully executed in a traditional style using oils, watercolors or mixed media; JJ’s art can be found in both public and private collections worldwide. Galloway regularly participates in shows in major cities including New York, London, Miami, Chicago, and LA, representing not only her own work but also the work of other emerging artists through her business JJ Galloway Studios. When she’s not in the studio, she works at the Smithsonian where she leads lectures both in the galleries and virtually to hundreds of participants globally.

Gita Joshi

Gita Joshi is an independent curator, an award-winning art dealer, and the host of The Curator’s Salon – a podcast and website focusing on the art world with advice for early and mid-career artists. She has an art history background and trained in curating at Central St. Martins. Joshi has produced artists open studio programs, worked with arts charities, organized open exhibitions, she also works as an artist coach and is the author of the bestselling book, Show Your Art – How to Build an Art Career Without a Gallery.
